I am a mother, herbalist, wildcrafter, and locavore. Working in harmony with the people, plants, animals, and ecosystem of local community is my passion. Born and raised in a small north Georgia town at the foothills of the Appalachians where my family has lived for generations, I began forming a connection with people of different walks that has lasted and expanded in adulthood.
For over 15 years, I have been working with herbs. My official herbal studies began in 2008 at BotanoLogos School of Herbal Studies with Patricia Kyritsi Howell, where I returned as class assistant in 2010 and Clinical Training in 2011 with TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) assessment philosophy. In 2014, I began studies with Phyllis D. Light at Appalachian Center for Natural Health with emphasis on Southern Folk and Native American healing traditions. I have studied with many recognized health teachers at conferences, workshops, and classes each year. As member of the American Herbalists Guild and the state chapter in Georgia (GHG), I work to maintain professional connections within a wider community of healers. I completed training in Mental Health First Aid in 2015. My degrees include an A.S. in Natural Science and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
I have two children, both natural births with the first in a hospital with a CNM and the second at home with a CPM. My children are what initially led me to herbalism and healthier living. In 2013, I completed 6 months of local only eating, meaning grown, raised, or gathered within 100 miles of my home. I believe in finding balance, an ongoing journey.
Sustainable Pickens and North Georgia Herbalists are groups that I co-found to grow community and connections for those in my area. Summer Solstice Celebrations and a Community Equinox Feast are events that I initiated for community. I have volunteered at the Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center (Free Clinic) in Jasper and the Open Door Harriet Tubman Foot Clinic (Homeless Free Clinic). Currently, I volunteer regularly with the Herb Cart and Herbalista Lorna in Atlanta.
I look forward to our meeting and the journey toward your balance!
be well,
crystal
